Penang, Malaysia: A Walk Around Town

On a previous visit to Penang, we took a full-day tour and visited the main sites: Kek Lok Si Temple, Georgetown, Chew Jetty, and an old mansion. This time, I decided to just see what I could find walking around town. Clayton opted to stay on the ship, so I headed out on my own with no place in particular in mind. This post will be pictorial since I did not take a tour.

Georgetown’s architecture is British Colonial. I found a nice park to explore right off the port exit.

As a former math teacher, I was thrilled to see tessellations in front of many of the shops:

I walked past many colorful shops. The colors reminded me of India.

I passed a Hindu temple but didn’t have any Ringgit to pay for the entrance fee. Next up was an enormous mosque. I was not dressed appropriately to enter. Before heading back to the ship, there was yet another ornate temple

I headed in the direction of the water and saw that I was right by Chew Jetty. I walked a bit down the jetty but turned around because it was really crowded with fellow tourists. By the time I got back to the ship, I had walked three miles and it was time for my next meal. It was a very pleasant morning.
