The Temple of Literature was one of the places I really wanted to visit on this trip to Hanoi. Rather than making a quick visit on our HOHO trip around town, we opted to take a cyclo (pedicab) to the temple first thing in the morning. Like the other museums we visited in Hanoi, there is a small admission charge and audioguides are available as well.
This temple was built in 1070 and is dedicated to Confucius. It is the site of the first university here, and scholars still come here to pray before taking important exams.
As a former teacher, I love the quote found upon entering the first gate:
The gardens are quite lovely; it is a serene place.
Continuing through, you reach the temples and altars:
There are a few historical displays of textbooks and clothing the students wore.
Clayton and I enjoyed our time here!
