Since we now have five days at sea, I am taking the opportunity to respond to comments about shipboard life. I know some of you that are reading my blog are going to be on the Star soon, so if you have any additional questions you would like answered, please leave a comment and I will do my best to answer you!
Singapore and more Singapore
Today is our second day in Singapore (one would have been enough). We will be leaving (hopefully) tomorrow afternoon. Our lovely ship has a problem with its propulsion system, so we are stuck in the middle of the harbor for the time being!
Those of you that have commented that you would like to know more about life on the ship are in luck – due to the ship’s problems, we will have 7 out of the next 11 days at sea. Most of our ports have been canceled. Since I won’t have ports to write about, I will write about the ship! Until then, you can read my posts about SIngapore and about the ship’s problems.
Malaysia and more Malaysia!
Today’s post wraps up the second leg of our epic journey. We arrive in Singapore tomorrow and will begin our cruise through SE Asia. We are slowly adapting to the tremendous heat and humidity.
It is hot here!
Rumor has it that it is snowing back home in Seattle. It is hard to imagine, given that where we are, the temperatures are in the 90’s and so is the humidity!
We are in Langkawi, Malaysia today and will be in Penang tomorrow and Kuala Lumpur the next day. Sunday is Singapore and the majority of the people on the cruise will be disembarking and a new group coming on board.
On to Asia!
We visited our final three ports in India; made a quick stop in Sri Lanka and are headed to Thailand! Elephant riding is in the plan for tomorrow – I can’t wait!
Magical Mumbai
How do you describe this amazing city? It is truly a city of contrasts – the sights and smells of a place that houses 21 million people, 60% of whom live in slums, where cows wander through busy intersections? It was a fascinating couple of days!

Happy Thanksgiving!
It is hard to believe that today is Thanksgiving Day, given that we are in the Middle East. We revisited Muscat today, so took it easy rather than doing another tour. We scooped up some bargains at the souk, and are now (finally) getting a chance to relax. I have added my three latest port reports below.

Dubai, Night and Day
Today’s posts are all about Dubai. We arrived at noon on Saturday and left late Sunday night. The first leg of our cruise ended Sunday; we said goodbye to many dear friends that we had met. New people joined the cruise Sunday as well, so now we have new friends to make! We did a 4×4 Evening Safari Saturday night. If you ever get the chance to go to Dubai, this is definitely a “must do”. Beautiful Oman
After four sea days, we spent a couple of days in the amazing country of Oman. Tonight we will be in Dubai for a fun evening of camel riding, dune bashing, belly dancing, henna tattoos, great food and other fun events!
Petra and Luxor
We are cruising along the coast of Sudan, headed toward Somalia. Tonight we enter the “HRA” or High-Risk Area which means that we will be cruising with curtains drawn and lights out. During the day the Promenade Deck will be closed since it is considered dangerous to be visible to passing ships. Piracy is a problem in the area so we are definitely taking security measures seriously.
I am completely caught up on my reports! Links for Petra and Luxor are below. We will have a couple of port stops in Oman, and then will be saying goodbye to most of our friends we have met and saying hello to some new ones!
